Widgi Creek Pickleball

Indoor tennis courts were originally planned for a new facility at the Widgi Creek Golf Club in

Bend, but the popularity of pickleball changed the game midway into construction. The smaller

footprint of pickleball courts allowed a significant increase in the number of people who could

play the game, as compared with the reduced capacity for larger tennis courts. That made for

many more happy customers and a more viable return on investment. Our office provided the

original architectural design services in conjunction with numerous local engineering and design

consultants. During the transition, much of the original design was stripped down to the bones

of the steel structure by the owner. Its industrial genre was cost effective and well-fitted in this venue.

The facility was made ready for occupancy just in time for the onslaught of COVID-19.

Additional downtime allowed the owner to craft the public spaces with his personal collection

of pop art relics and local color. His personal upgrades resulted in a very popular community

center for personal fitness and recreation. We are happy to see our clients add value to their

personal gift to the community. It’s easy to see why pickleball is so popular here.

Pickleball anyone?
